“It is the stretched soul that makes music, and souls are stretched by the pull of opposites /opposite bents, tastes, yearnings, loyalties. Where there is no polarity /where energies flow smoothly in one direction /there will be much doing but no music.”
~ Eric Hoffer ~
The earth plane is about duality.. this means everything has a polar opposite. To name a few of the thousands that exist: Soul/Ego Good/Bad Joy/Anger Love/Fear Day/Night Right/Wrong Sound/Silence Light/Darkness Peace/Agitation Freedom/Control Time/Timelessness Surrender/Defense Patience/Impatience In-breath/Out-breath Non-judgment/Judgment
Many spend most of their entire embodiment in the negative pole of thought, feeling, word, and action and very little time on the other side (the positive). The only thing MORE powerful than the negative pole that has the power to shift us to the other side is Love. Love of self allows one to experience the other side: the energies of the positive. We are all masters of the negative pole and the reason we have not yet mastered the positive is because we have not LOVED ourselves enough.
Love is what provides the MOMENTUM we need for pushing-off of the negative. Because negativity keeps us more or less paralyzed by its gravity force, we come to believe that it is our only option, but with practice (pushing-off between the two poles on a regular basis--as opposed to remaining stuck on the negative side) we will come to see that BETWEEN the two poles of (negativity & positivity) there is Neutrality or "IS-ness".
Right smack in the middle between the two, we find that we are not at the affect of anything; nothing AFFECTS us to the degree that we are moved to one or the other of the polarities.
Instead, in the middle we can open our hearts and embrace BOTH polarities in their "IS-ness". But until we find that middle ground between the poles, and are "strong" enough to maintain that position, we move back and forth (sometimes consciously, sometimes not) between the polarities.. now loving ourselves.. now, not so much..

Reader's comment #1:
First, your quotation mention "stretching" and I can't stop reflecting on how many times we complain about having to make efforts, yet, if we don't stretch we are not satisfied. We are definitely created to stretch out physically and in every aspect. Stretching is part of being happy. Doing makes us happy; moving forward.
The second part mentions the pull of polarities and that comes as very healing to me now. I sometimes get impatient ("when am I going to transcend the tension of these two opposites?"). However, the quotation makes me calm down and appreciate that... I am working on it and soul definitely has its own wise pace! Thank you for that. It reminded me of: "don't push the river"; the way cannot be forced.
Another deep reflection surrounding those words: Life is always working its magic. There is a deep wisdom underneath cycles. There's a time for everything, and nature is the clearest example. We are now in Spring and I feel its invigorating spirit inside, perhaps... Like the blooming of flowers: a lot of energy sprouting: oh, that's so good.
The Law of Unity embraces a lot too. But at this moment, what stands out for me is that in pure consciousness everything happens at the same time; all parts form the whole, but the whole is a lot more than the sum of each part. Totality. The Law of Change speaks to me of the wisdom of cycles that I referred to above. The full ideas mentioned integrate the Law Of Magic? I didn't understand that very well.
Response:
Thank you, for sharing the insight gained. As to the Law of Magic, though it is actually an extension of the Law of Unity, it is covered separately.
