Synchronicity

Question: What's the connection, if any, between destiny and synchronicity?

Response: Destiny and synchronicity are rightly two different and generally unrelated concepts. While destiny is the predetermination of the course of events, synchronicity has to do with matters that occur at the same time.

Carl Jung was the first one to coin the term synchronicity, so it is a fairly "young" word in our vocabulary. It is the coming together of inner and outer events in a way that cannot be explained by cause and effect and is especially meaningful to the observer.

Most people refer to such experiences as just co-incidences when they happen, and so many people are inclined to overlook them or call them something else. They might, for instance, say “I got lucky,” or “That happened just in the nick of time,” or “It came out of the blue,” or “It jumped out at me.” Later on, when asked if they have experienced synchronicity, they can’t remember any. The reason is because all those incidents are filed away in their memory under the category of luck or happenstance, not synchronicity. However, being open, responsive, and attentive to both the world around and the world within, sets up an environment that welcomes synchronicity into our life experience and into our awareness. We will then find that synchronicity occurs every day, in the most ordinary of places: on the telephone, at the office, at the grocery store, in the library, at school, in the car, etc...
