The Five Chapter Story can be used as a tool to measure our progress through challenging situations. It's a great tool that can help us to identify and move through habitual patterns that don't serve us. Might there be a 'chapter' you frequently get stuck at?

THE FIVE CHAPTER STORY

Chapter One

I was walking down the street and I fell into this big black hole. It wasn’t my fault and it was dark and scary and it took me a long time to get out.

Chapter Two

I was walking down the street and I fell into this big black hole. It still wasn’t my fault and it was still dark and scary but it was familiar and I knew how to get out and got out quickly.

Chapter Three

I was walking down the street and saw this big black hole and chose to jump in. I got out very quickly.

Chapter Four

I was walking down the street and saw this big black hole and chose to walk around it.

Chapter Five

I walked down a different street.

Curiously, many often find themselves trying to go from Chapter 3 in a situation right to Chapter 5, thereby skipping Chapter 4 completely. Chapter 4 is the most difficult (those situations where you've "been there, done that" and just want to avoid it again). Realize that to actually heal a pattern in our lives it's important that we experience ALL five chapters. It turns out that Chapter 4 is the most healing chapter because it's the one where we can SEE the pattern and consciously CHOOSE to walk around it. Chapter 5 becomes a true release only after we have lived Chapter 4 first.
